This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, July 17th, 
2008.



3 MISSISSIPPI KITES are regularly being seen in Newmarket. There is a pair 
that is nesting, and one additional bird is being seen in the same area. To 
see the birds, take Route 152 (South Main Street) west from the center of 
Newmarket. You will see the High School on the left (south) side of the 
road. Park at the High School and walk west down the street. Do not park in 
driveways, or along Route 152. The KITES have been seen flying and landing 
in the tops of trees between Maplecrest and Pond Streets. This is a 
residential neighborhood, and visiting birders should respect the rights of 
property owners. Please do not walk on private property, including lawns, 
talk and laugh loudly early in the morning, or block residents from using 
the sidewalk. Also, take care not to alarm the birds. Do not play 
recordings, stand under the nest, or harass the birds in any way.



A LEAST TERN, 2 ROSEATE TERNS, 3 PIPING PLOVERS, 60 WILLETS, and 141 
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were reported from Hampton Harbor on July 11th.



2 GREATER SHEARWATERS were seen on a whale-watch boat trip out of Rye Harbor 
on July 10th.



320 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were seen at Meadow Pond in Hampton on July 
11th.



A HORNED GREBE continues to be seen along the coast and during the past week 
was reported from off of Jenness Beach in Rye, and near Odiorne Point State 
Park.



6 PIED-BILLED GREBES were reported from the Brentwood Mitigation Area on 
July 16th.



A RED CROSSBILL was seen on Cold Brook Road in Eaton, near the Freedom town 
line, on July 9th.



Hikers on the Huntington Ravine Trail on Mount Washington reported 13 
BICKNELL'S THRUSHES, 5 AMERICAN PIPITS, 10 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS, and 
over 150 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS all on July 16th.



Single YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS were reported from Winchester and Nelson on 
July 11th, and one was seen on Island Path in Hampton on July 10th.



2 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS were reported from Marlborough on July 13th, 2 were 
reported from Chester on July 13th, one was reported from Nelson on July 
11th, and one was reported from Rochester on July 10th.



A MERLIN was seen at Little Cherry Pond in Jefferson on July 12th, and 2 
were seen at the Hanover Country Club on July 10th.



A family of EASTERN SCREECH-OWLS was seen near the intersection of School 
Street and Minot Street in Concord on July 16th.



A FISH CROW was reported from the Hannaford's store parking lot on Route 108 
in Dover on July 10th.



An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Hampton Marsh behind Little Jack's 
restaurant on Route 1A, and a GLOSSY IBIS was seen on Island Path in 
Hampton, both on July 10th.



300 TREE SWALLOWS were seen feeding at Little River Salt Marsh in North 
Hampton on July 13th.
