This AM while sitting at the bottom of a cliff on Peaked Mtn in Piermont, monitoring Peregrine nesting, a Winterj Wren zoomed in and landed about head high on a yellow birch trunk 10 ft or so from me.  At the moment it landed it cut loose with it's long song, startlingly loud.  It gave forth a second song, then hopped down on the ground and started energetically looking under leaves, in tufts of moss and in rock crevices.  Got great looks as it proceeded to work its way out of sight.  The Lawrence Kilham sit and wait approach to birding succeeds7 once again!-----Don
