Went for a walk at sun-up this morning along Gilson and Mt Hunger Rds
in Hartland. Highlights were snipe winnowing and a Louisiana
Waterthrush singing! First warbler of the year for me. Also the first
White-throats in my yard.
Birding highlights from the last few days include Turkey, Wood Ducks,
and Common Mergansers along River Rd in Plainfield, NH (no eagles),
while biking yesterday. At Lake Runnemede in Windsor Thursday evening
(19th) there were still Ring-necked Duck, Hooded Merg, one Greater
Scaup, a pair of Bufflehead, a Northern Flicker, a flock of 23
cormorants flying up the CT River (but diverted briefly to check out
the lake), countless Tree Swallows (my guess is around 100--they were
everywhere over the water and the field), and a flock of Song
Sparrows being chased by a raptor (too brief a look for me to identify).
