This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for November 21, covering the period
November 14 - 20, 2008.  

 

The birding highlights of the week include the following sightings: 1 CAVE
SWALLOW at Charlotte Town Beach (first state record), 11/15-17; 1 HUDSONIAN
GODWIT at Dead Creek on 11/17 and a GOLDEN EAGLE in Vergennes on 11/17.  A
RED-HEADED WOODPECKER report at the Burlington Waterfront by the Boathouse
on 11/19 has not been confirmed - a second sighting would be welcome.  

 

Two late-departing GREAT EGRETS were seen at the mouth of Dead Creek on
Basin Harbor Road on 11/16.

 

6,000 SNOW GEESE were sighted off Grand Isle on 11/15.

 

An AMERICAN COOT was spotted on Lake Bomoseen on 11/17.

 

A PURPLE SANDPIPER was observed at the Shelburne Boat Access on 11/18.

 

A late SWAMP SPARROW was sighted in Pittsford on 11/16.

 

Twenty-four WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen in Moretown on 11/16 and one
COMMON REDPOLL was spotted in South Starksboro on 11/16.
