Springfield's 30th CBC was held 22 December, following a postponement
due to inclement weather on the 16th. Although the number of
participants were down, the number of species was the second-highest
ever, with 53 seen. We had seven high counts or ties for the most
number of individuals of a species. These included Bald Eagle (4),
Wild Turkey (341), Red-bellied Woodpecker (2), Hairy Woodpecker (89),
Bohemian Waxwing (503), Cedar Waxwing (728), and Rusty Blackbird (4).
Highlight species included the Rusty Balckbirds and a Gray Catbird.
Overall, we had over 8,100 individual birds, running about 1,000 over
our 10-year average.
