This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for October 8, 2007 covering the period
October 1-7, 2007.

 

Highlights this week include the following sightings:  3 BLACK VULTURES over
Marina field in Brattleboro, 10/5; 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER off northwest Grand
Isle, 10/1; 1 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER at Brilyea Access, Dead Creek on 10/2; 1
juvenile SABINE'S GULL one-half mile off Charlotte Town Beach, 10/5; 1
PRAIRIE WARBLER at Townshend Lake, 10/7; 1 NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW at
Brattleboro Retreat Meadows, 10/1 and 10/2 and 1 late-departing BOBOLINK at
Dead Creek, 10/6.

 

A lingering SORA was heard at Dead Creek on 10/6.

 

Five SURF SCOTERS were observed at Charlotte Town Beach on 10/5.  A large
flock (115) of WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS was seen on Grand Isle, 10/6.

 

A MERLIN was spotted 10/2 at Brilyea Access, Dead Creek and 10/4 on Grand
Isle.

 

A late-departing LEAST SANDPIPER was spotted at Dead Creek on 10/6.  

 

An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was spotted in South Starksboro on 10/4.  Two
late-leaving BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS were seen in Waitsfield on 10/1
and 1 in West Rutland 10/6.  A WILSON'S WARBLER was observed in Waitsfield
on 10/1.

 

The season's first AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was spotted at Dead Creek on 10/6
and the first FOX SPARROWS of the fall were seen in Grand Isle on 10/4.
