I had an experience similar event to Tammy's several years ago when two grouse blasted through one of the panes in my garage door. The first bird died instantly from the trauma. The second bird flew through the hole in the glass created by the first bird [this happened within milliseconds], and crashed into the wall on the far side of the garage. This second bird was stunned but alive. I carried it outside. It recovered and flew away after about ten minutes. I also thought that something must have been pursuing the birds, but I saw nothing. I bought some black plastic accipiter silhouettes at the Montshire Museum and put them on the garage windows, hoping to prevent any recurrence. It's never happened again.
