This week, two birdfeeder data surveys are being conducted: the
Backyard Winter Bird Survey (Feb 14 & 15) by NH Audubon, and the
Great Backyard Bird Count (Feb 13-16) - a joint project of the Cornell
Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. Your reported
observations help determine the distribution and abundance of wintering
birds. Below is additional information and the website links. This is a
fun and easy way to participate in citizen science. Please consider
participating and also urging your friends who have feeders but may not be on this listserv to participate.

NH Backyard Winter Bird Survey

Feb 14 & 15

Backyard
Winter Bird Survey participants report any bird species visiting their
yard and/or feeders in New Hampshire on the second weekend of February.
Originally begun as a "Cardinal-Tufted Titmouse Census," it was
expanded in 1987 to gather information on the distribution and
abundance of many winter species in New Hampshire.

Great Backyard Bird Count

Sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Audubon

Plan to count birds for at least 15 minutes on one or more days of the count, February 13–16, 2009.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird
watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot
of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate,
from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15
minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day
of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds.

Have fun birding,
