The next bird walk in the Norwich 2010 Birding Quest series is to meet
on the lawn of Foley Park in Norwich in the early evening at 6 PM and
continue to dusk on Monday August 23, 2010. Road instructions are
below. This walk, led by Norwich residents Chris Rimmer and George
Clark, is free and open to both Norwich residents and others. Children
are welcome with an accompanying adult. Participants should wear
comfortable shoes for walking over uneven terrain and should bring
binoculars if available. We'll looking for any migrating nighthawks,
as well as waterfowl, herons, kingfishers, and a variety of landbirds
attracted to the Connecticut River and adjacent uplands. In case of
thundershowers or steady rain, the rain date will be Tuesday 8/24.

Route instructions: From Exit 13 on I-91 in Norwich, turn toward the
Leydard Bridge leading into Hanover, NH. Shortly before reaching the
bridge, pull into the left turn lane, and turn left onto River Road in
Norwich. Immediately after turning onto River Road, turn left to park
in the unpaved commuter parking lot. From the entrance to that lot,
walk across River Road (looking carefully both ways to avoid traffic
when crossing) and follow the sidewalk underneath the Vermont end of
the Ledyard Bridge over to the starting point on the lawn at Foley
Park. If coming from Hanover, turn right onto River Road immediately
after crossing the Ledyard Bridge and then take the immediate left
into the parking lot, and from there continue on foot as described
above.
