In late morning today (Jan 17), after a night with air temperatures
well below freezing, a male Belted Kingfisher was along Blood Brook by
Brookside Lane, downstream from the Hopson Road bridge, in Norwich.
Ponds and the Connecticut River by Norwich are generally ice-covered.
Although extensive ice bordered the shorelines of Blood Brook along
Brookside Lane, a patch of water remained open in the middle of the
stream and provided a potential foraging area for the kingfisher.
