Highlights among 30 bird species encountered around Norwich today
included a Double-crested Cormorant swimming and diving on the
Connecticut River (thus in New Hampshire but seen from Foley Park in
Norwich near the Ledyard Bridge). One Spotted Sandpiper was foraging
on a mat of floating lily pads in the cove south of Foley Park (and
thus in Vermont).

An adult Red-tailed Hawk was flying in the vicinity of Hogback Road.
Gray Catbirds were relatively widespread, being found at Foley Park,
near Pompy Farms, and along Campbell Flats Road. Other sightings along
Campbell Flats Road included two Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, an Eastern
Phoebe (the only phoebe seen today), a Yellow-rumped Warbler (the only
warbler seen today), a Swamp Sparrow, and a nice view of a Lincoln's
Sparrow. Also along Campbell Flats Road, one of at least three Song
Sparrows was singing for a short time.
