For those of you who enjoy visiting Foley Point, whether for the
orioles, loons, or green herons, some sad news from last night's
Norwich select board meeting. The initiative to preserve the point as
a passive-use public park for birders, walkers, bicyclists,
canoeists, and naturists, went nowhere, largely as a result of early
and persistent skepticism by one board member, who doubts that
anything needs to be done to insure the preservation of this lovely
parcel of land.
In fact, several proposed municipal uses have been suggested for
Foley Point to date, which would forever change the character and
appearance of the town-owned parcel. A public forum to discuss the
possible use of Foley Point as a low-impact River Park, was
suggested to the select board, but no action was taken. If you feel
strongly about preserving this special place for future birding
please let your opinion be heard, whether by email to the select
board: [log in to unmask], or by email to the VN editor:

Public opinion in the cause of preserving a public place is what
Norwich public servants need to hear.
