This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for August 13, 2007 covering the period
August 6-12, 2007.
This week's highlights include 7 CASPIAN TERNS in Grand Isle on 8/9 and 14
on 8/10.
There was a raft of 350 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS seen on Lake Champlain at
Shelburne Farms on 8/5.
An unusually high number of WOOD DUCKS, 45, were observed at Sandbar State
Park on 8/9.
Four MERLINS were sighted at Northwood Park in Rutland Town on 8/12.
Birders at the Brilyea Access, Dead Creek, recorded the following migrant
shorebirds: 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVES on 8/11; 11 KILLDEER on 8/8 and 40+ on
8/11 (plus 4 in Grand Isle on 8/8); 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS on 8/8 and 1 on
8/11; 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS on 8/8, 1 on 8/10 and 1 on 8/11; 3 SOLITARY
SANDPIPERS on 8/10 and 4 on 8/11 (plus 1 at Goshen Dam on 8/12); 8 SPOTTED
SANDPIPERS on 8/11; 4 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS on 8/11; 6 LEAST SANDPIPERS on
8/8 and 100+ on 8/11 (plus 14 on 8/8 in Grand Isle) and 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER
on 8/11.
A TENNESSEE WARBLER was sighted on Ward Hill on 8/12.
