This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, April 23rd, 
2018.



A NORTHERN WHEATEAR was reported from Moore Fields on Route 155A in Durham 
on April 4th, and was relocated in fields along the Oyster River Forest in 
Durham on the 14th. The bird was seen multiple times during the past week, 
and was last reported on April 22nd. To look for the bird, park at the 
trailhead near the Lee town line on Packers Falls Road, walk north about 
one-half mile, and search the surrounding fields. The bird seems to favor 
piles of wood debris from clearing operations.



A RED PHALAROPE was seen in Ashland on April 17th, but has not been 
relocated.



At least 2 SNOWY OWLS continued to be reported from the coast during the 
past week, mainly from Rye and Hampton.



A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen at the Concord Airport on April 17th.



2 male BARROW’S GOLDENEYES and 53 COMMON GOLDENEYES were seen on the 
Androscoggin River in Errol on April 21st.



A RED-THROATED LOON was seen at the Charlestown Wastewater Treatment Plant 
on April 17th. COMMON LOONS have been reported from numerous inland bodies 
of water during the past week.



A BLUE-WINGED TEAL was seen at Great Meadows in Charlestown on April 17th, 
and a pair was seen along the coast in North Hampton on April 20th.



40 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 24 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 12 GREATER SCAUP, 4 LESSER 
SCAUP, 26 BUFFLEHEADS, 8 COMMON GOLDENEYES, a HOODED MERGANSER, and 6 COMMON 
MERGANSERS were seen on the Connecticut River near Charlestown on April 
17th.



4 BONAPARTES GULLS, 50 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, 12 GREATER SCAUP, 16 
BUFFLEHEADS, and 42 PALM WARBLERS were seen at the Connecticut River in 
Hinsdale on April 17th. A LONG-TAILED DUCK was seen here on the 18th.



3 BLACK SCOTERS and a RED-NECKED GREBE were seen at Wilson Pond, and 2 
AMERICAN BITTERNS were seen near the airport, all in Keene on April 17th.



A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen at Little River in Exeter on April 
19th. A GLOSSY IBIS was seen on Wetherby Road in Charlestown on April 20th.



A BROAD-WINGED HAWK was seen in Penacook on April 18th, 1 was seen in 
Merrimack on the 21st, 1 was seen in Orford on the 22nd, 1 was seen in 
Madbury on the 23rd, and 2 were seen in Lebanon on the 22nd.



VIRGINIA RAILS were reported from Durham and Concord during the past week.



A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen in Exeter on April 21st.



A BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was seen in Rochester on April 17th.



Single COMMON YELLOWTHROATS were reported from Nashua and Deerfield on April 
20th.



An AMERICAN PIPIT was seen in Lebanon on April 22nd.



15 NORTHERN FLICKERS were seen in fields adjacent NH Audubon’s McLane Center 
in Concord on April 17th.



2 RED CROSSBILLS were reported from Antrim on April 18th, and 1 was reported 
from Cornish on the 17th.



7 FISH CROWS were reported from Durham on April 22nd.
