Dear Al

THANK YOU so much for contacting me; as you I also I remember your visit clearly.

We are having a beautiful winter here, the weather seems to be collaborating and although we have very low temperatures, we do not have snow in the ground (which it makes me very happy!).

Congratulations on bringing back the herbarium, it is not easy these days to maintain herbaria anymore. Most universities do not appreciate them. We are really lucky here at Cornell where we are still strongly supported by the administration.

I am very busy these days, I am running the Plant Anatomy Unit and doing research on Cretaceous and Tertiary sediments, mostly focusing on Patagonian paleofloras. This spring semester I will be teaching a new class (Histology of Plant model Organisms) basically it is a course for plant molecular biology students that think they do not need to know any plant anatomy what so ever...

May be you should plan a visit to Ithaca, it will be my pleasure to organize it for you and your wife.

My best regards

Alejandra

Hi, Alejandra: I remember you well from a long ago visit to Cornell! I am sorry this took so long. The computer at this one of my three offices has been down for a whole month--the computer office did something about the general system that wrecked my outfit, and it has taken this long (partly because of the time of year) to get it up again. It is best to use the address: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> (my home office).

I attended the annual MBG systematics symposium in St. Louis in October, at which Elizabeth gave a very fine paper on her work with wood, and I had lunch with her afterwards. She is retired in North Carolina, but still very active in science. I will take a copy of this home and try to find her address to send to you. I have it there, I am pretty sure.

I had to give up palynology because it is impossible without a lab, but I took over the PSU herbarium in 2007 and am its full time, volunteer, curator. I have four volunteer assistants. We have brought PAC back from a coma.

Best, Al
