Huh... That's hard to say... I think this is somewhat individual for
each person and how his eyes react on a given text font...
For my part I clearly prefer the use of the sans serif fonts and here
first of all the Arial Family and next the Heidelberg Zürich and/or the
Letraset Zürich families - followed by the Letraset Eurostile family.
But it completely depends on the type of text and to whom the text is
directed...
If it's for my own purposes I always use the Arial - mostly in 13p, but
sometimes also the Arial 14p. And it's the same if I send text to other
visually impaired, - here I also use the Arial - also because the Arial
font family is included with all Windows versions and you therefore
don't have to think about any kind of font substitution or not. - Even
formatting such as styles, sections, paragraphs and other kind of
formatting are kept when sending to Win-users if you are sending in
either .doc or .rtf format...
Others prefer the serif fonts such as the Times family because of the
horizontal 'font base', which can be seen as a 'leading line', but I
don't like this font, because the downward font strokes are too thin.
Here I have mostly been using the New York 13p or the Gentium Basic 14p,
- which I think I'll have to exchange in favor of the Gentium Book Basic
13p. - The downward strokes in the Gentium Book Basic are a bit thicker
than in Gentium Basic.
Else my absolutely prefered serif font is the classic Garamond -
preferably the URW version because that one is a bit thicker in the
downward strokes and therefore easier to read for people with reduced sight.
I have made a PDF document with my most used fonts shown in a small text
example using both the Danish//Scandinavian and German characters in
various sizes for an easy comparison, so if you - or others - would like
to have this, just send me a note off-list and I'll return the mail with
this document attached.
Cheers, Erik Richard
