We just purchased the Yamakawa 275 region free DVD player (for $50) and are
very impressed. The remote has a button that allows you to convert the
outgoing signal (to the TV) to be PAL or NTSC. Works like a charm.

Please note: check and make sure that the model you want is still being made
via Yamakawa.com Alas, the region free DVD player with the built in karaoke
function (all this for only $40!) is no longer being made :-(
