We have also discovered this problem, and it appears on both machines
that have been imaged and those that have not been. So I don't think
that is the answer.
The work around that I gave my users was to use the Apple + spacebar
combination when the menu has disappeared. This forces the menu to
refresh itself and usually reappears. At least, my clients have
stopped complaining about it.
But I haven't found a solution either.
