Hi Christine,
This is in response to your email below, regarding vendors for
Language Labs.
Here in India, there is a new product on the market : its the RENET
Digital Multimedia Language Lab. The Head office is in Finland, and
i'm sure they have US Distributors. Its a software solution and does
not include booths or computers, which have to be purchased and built
separately. I haven't actually seen one myself, so i can't give it a
personal recommendation, but we just received the promo material, and
it looks very good and right up our own upgrade alley! It has been
installed in a few colleges and universities in India.

By the way, i'm very interested in all replies you get on the subject!
And since i am writing to the LLTI list for the first time, I would
like to know, on a separate topic, if any of you have worked with
architects on floor plans and constructing a dedicated language lab/
learning centre building from scratch... Though i am searching the
LLTI archives and have found some good information, it will be very
interesting to get some direct advice...if any of you have worked on
a language lab construction project, it would be wonderful if you
could share some floor plans. i'm particularly interested in shapes
of classrooms (for acoustics), as well as the setup of computer labs
in a more humane and beautiful way rather than a series of ugly
cubicles....We are at the start of a very exciting project, and our
proposed Lab will be the first building in the University Area of my
city, an international city dedicated to Human Unity in South
India...we are open to all advice and would greatly appreciate any
ideas/input.
