With apologies for the cross-posting. Frank had a long history in the
language technology community, so I wanted to send this out as widely as
possible (with permission from the original sender of the message, the
chair of Duke's German department).

Frank Borchardt

Dear friends and colleagues,
it is with great sadness that I write to let you know that Frank
Borchardt

passed away from liver cancer on Monday, May 14, around 10:30 pm, at
Meadowlands Hospice in Hillsborough, NC. In the last weeks, Frank made
phone calls to say good-bye, and received loving messages from friends,
colleagues, and students. In these last days, he has had many visitors.
The
end was quiet and peaceful.

Frank was a beloved teacher, friend, and colleague, and a passionate,
fervent lover of everything that was good and right in German culture
and
literature. We will miss him immensely. A memorial service will be
planned

for September.

Sincerely

Ann Marie
