I was surprised to discover, this morning, December 15th, that the logo
on Google.com (also called the "Google Doodle") for today salutes an
obscure language that is dear to my heart. The "L" in Google has been
replaced with a flagpole sporting a green flag with a single green
star. This is one of the symbols for the language Esperanto.
Apparently, Google decided to honor Esperanto on the 150th anniversary
of the birth of its creator, Ludwig Zamenhof, after a public campaign
from multiple countries sending the suggestion to [log in to unmask]
I wonder if any other Google Doodles have focused on a specific
language or language learning. Does anyone know? Perhaps we could
think of an interesting proposal.
