Just as some kind of reference point, I have an account with Hostgator for a
server hosting site, I pay 24.00 per month with plenty of space and can host
many sites, but they do not host FileMaker databases, they probably host
many others though, using this as a reference, what do you think is normal
cost if this were a FileMaker service?

Yes! what Corn and John said. FMS13 will be difficult on 'shared' servers
and these are what most hosting companies use to keep the cost down.
"virtual" servers, splits the server (by software) so that each "virtual"
appears to be a separate "box". This is more costly than shared. "dedicated"
is your own physical box at a hosting company. Generally (but not always),
you are responsible for the maintenance. This may be the only option for
those that cannot host "in-house", but would be the most expensive at a
hosting company.  Be very cautious on making this decision. The cheapest
likely will NOT be the best.
