Had similar, though not identical, issues with 2006 MBPro 15". Lots of graphics artifacts and eventually many "drop dead, I don't care howe vital the database you are working on is, freezes". Apple Genii confirmed bad graphics chip, bummer as warranty long gone. Replaced with a "Pimp My Ride" MBAir - no issues after direct migration. I'd guess you have a hardware issue - they don't make'em like they used to.

Wondering if this is just me or are others 'seeing' something similar. I've also noticed when working in layout mode that I can see the text gradually get fuzzier until it gets selected at which time the selected text gets sharper. In any case it usually means a limited working time in any layout mode before it all goes 'greasy'. If anyone wants the screen shot I can send off-line.
