West Virginia Environmental Justice Alternative Spring Break (ASB)

Mountaintop removal (MTR) coal mining is one of the most environmentally destructive methods of fossil fuel extraction in existence. It has been called "strip mining on steroids", but more than environmental devastation, the practice has significantly contributed to the ongoing impoverishment of some of America's poorest communities. This Alternative Spring Break trip will investigate these and other environmental justice issues in the rural Appalachian region of West Virginia.
