Wellness/Activities

* COUPLES MASSAGE
Wednesdays 7:15-9pm, FUEL
6 sessions, $60 per person
Instructor: Jenny Gelfan
This course will teach you basic relaxation massage technique and theory.  Upon  
completion, you will be able perform a basic relaxation massage to share with  
your friends and family.  This course is hands-on and you do not need any previous  
experience.

* DJING 101
Thurdays 6-7pm or 8-9pm, FUEL
6 sessions, $30 per person
Instructor: Patrick Chen
This course focuses on the bare essentials of DJing. Two turntables, a mixer and  
headphones. Nothing fancy. Here you'll also learn some history and current hot  
trends in the DJing industry. You will also gain an appreciation for the various  
technology/DJ equipment out there. We'll cover a wide range of genres popular  
in the club scene:  Top40,  Hip-Hop, House, Electro, Baltimore Club. DJing is  
much more then a glorified playlist. Like any instrument, it requires practice  
and so tips will be given to how to improve even after these classes. Technical  
teaching will be towards beat matching, looping, set selection, usage of effects  
, transitions and other rules of thumb. This will be very hands on- students will  
take turns working with the turntable systems.

*REMIXING, MASHUPS, AND MUSIC PRODUCTION WITH ABLETON LIVE
Tuesdays 7:00-8:00pm, Collis 303 for first class, Collis 218 (classes 2-6)
6 sessions, $35 per person
Instructor: Ryan Collins
Limit: 16 students
Are you constantly checking music blogs for the next hot remix?  Have you ever  
wanted to mash up your favorite songs like SuperMashBros, The White Panda, or  
Kap Slap?  Have you ever wondered how famous producers like David Guetta, Avicii,  
Afrojack, and Skrillex create their own trademark sounds digitally?  Then this  
is the class for you!  Electronic music production and digital sampling are both  
techniques that are currently exploding in the music industry.  In this class,  
you will learn everything you need to get started with making your own remixes,  
mashups, and even original tracks using the software Ableton Live.  Instruction  
will cover a range of topics, including everything from basic song composition  
and music theory to harmonic mixing, synthesizer creation, and sample acquisition.
Participants will need their own laptop that can run Ableton Live 8.0 or later  
(check out there website at www.ableton.com), as well as their own headphones  
or earbuds.  Experience with Ableton or music composition is helpful, but not  
mandatory.

*SPEED MENTAL MATH
Tuesdays 4:00-6:00pm, Collis ?
6 sessions, $40
Limit: 25 students
Instructor: Delos Chang
Learn how to add and multiply numbers faster than a calculator. Mental math calculations  
develop your mind's organizational abilities, increase mental capacity, and expand  
memory. Quick thinking and visualization methods are emphasized in this class.  
Real world applications using mental math (e.g. calculating Poker Odds) included.  
Must purchase and bring own abacus.

* SPEED READING
Mondays (10/03, 10/10) and Wednesdays (10/05, 10/17) 3:00-4:15pm
4 sessions, $35 per person
Instructor: Carl Thum
Limit: 20 people
Sign up and find the time to put more fun into your fall at Dartmouth! This course  
is essentially a speed reading course, but with plenty of information and practice  
on comprehension skills, too. You will find ways to read more, read more in less  
time, get more out of your reading, and you may just find time to read for pleasure  
in the time you have left!

*STARCRAFT 2
Thursdays 8:00-9:30pm, Collis 218
6 sessions, $30
Instructors: Peter Spradling and Yufan Lin
Limit: 10 students
Are you a cyber athlete?  Want to be?  In this Starcraft II class, students will  
be watching professional games, analyzing replays, and playing matches against  
players at or above their level.  The purpose of this course is to improve your  
Starcraft II skills, and learn how to be a better RTS gamer in general.

LANGUAGE

*Korean Language
Mondays 4-5:00pm, Collis 218

Instructors: Moon Young Choi

This class is a Korean Language course for the students with no previous experience  
in the language. The course will focus mainly on basic conversational skills,  
and also briefly touch on the basics of writing and grammar structure.

ARTS

*DRAWING

Come have fun drawing from life with pencil and charcoal! We learn about using  
line, shape, and shadow in our drawings to express what we see and think. All  
drawing materials will be provided.

*INTRODUCTION TO DSLR PHOTOGRAPHY
Wednesday 7:00-8:30, Collis 303
6 session, $35
Instructor: Kevin Xiao
This course introduces students to DSLR Photography.  We will discuss physical  
anatomy, set up procedures, concepts like aperture and shutter speed, explore  
how to manipulate color and lighting, as well as more advanced photo techniques  
like long exposure photography and flash photography.

EXERCISE AND DANCE

* INTRODUCTION TO WEST COAST SWING: BRIDGING THE GAP
Tuesdays 6-8pm, FUEL

Instructor: Sean Gao
Limit: 30 students
West Coast Swing is a fresh new dance phenomenon that has started to grow in the  
young crowd. It is a Social dance that is danced to many genres of music including  
contemporary, country, club, anything with a 4/4 beat. You will learn the basic  
skills of West Coast Swing dancing.

*DANCE STRETCH AND CONDITIONING
Mondays 4:45-6:00, FUEL
6 sessions, $35 per person
Instructor: Katherine Shelton
Limit: 24 students
Looking for an extra workout to add to the week? Desire a dancer's lean muscles  
and flexibility? Take Dance Stretch and Conditioning! We'll improve overall muscle  
strength and flexibility in a safe, individual manner. This workout will be beneficial  
for both dancers and non-dancers. No dance experience necessary!

*YOGA

A yoga class for all levels - from beginner to advanced. Bring your own yoga matts.

* ZUMBA(R) LATIN AEROBIC FITNESS

Zumba(R) is a Latin based aerobic fitness program created in the mid 90's. The  
Zumba(R) program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create  
a one-of-a-kind fitness program. Zumba(R) Fanatics achieve long-term benefits  
while experiencing an absolute blast in one exciting hour of calorie-burning,  
body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!

* Cooking beyond Dartmouth: Everything a college student needs to know before  
graduating

Come learn the fundamentals of cooking and how to create easy, quick and impressive  
dishes with a few ingredients. You will learn key techniques and flavor combinations  
that always work and how to become an intuitive chef. A must before graduating  
and leaving DDS behind.

* Gluten Free Baking
  Tuesdays 6:30- 8:30, Maxwell 201

Instructor: Sarah Schewe

Have a sweet tooth but don't want to load up on sugar and gluten? Learn gluten-free  
baking! We'll make gluten-free versions of classic desserts like chocolate chip  
cookies and carrot cake, as well as sweet treats like pumpkin cookies, maple cake  
and honey cornmeal cake. We'll cover a variety of frostings from classic buttercream  
to white rum frosting. Many recipes will also be vegan and use sugar-substitutes.  
Instructed by Sarah Schewe. Schewe is gluten-free and before coming to Dartmouth  
studied cuisine at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.


* ONE TIME WHISKEY TASTING
Tuesday 7:00 - 9:00, One Wheelock
1 session (Choose 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, or 11/1), $25 per person
Instructor: Yan Fan
Limit: 7 per class
This one time, 1.5 hour course is perfect for those with an interest in trying  
something new without time for a six week course. We will try different varieties  
of whiskey from all over the world. Learn how to enjoy, appreciate, and judge  
the whiskeys of the world. This is a good class for graduating seniors to take!  
Learn how to order like a real adult at a bar. *Must be 21 or older to enroll.  
  ID required to register.

* WINE DISCOVERY
Wednesdays 7-9pm, Collis 101
6 sessions, $80 per person
Instructor: Wesley Schwab
Limit: 25 people
We will learn to really enjoy wine by becoming familiar with its components from  
farm to hype, major viticultural techniques, grape varieties, deciphering labels,  
and sensory evaluation. *Must be 21 or older to enroll.  ID required to register.  
First session mandatory.

* BARTENDING - MIXOLOGY 101
Sundays 5:15-6:15 (SESSION FULL), 6:30-7:30, or 7:45-8:45pm, Collis 218 first  
night, subsequently in One Wheelock
6 sessions, $55 per person
Instructor: Yan Fan, bartender
Be the knowledgeable drinker! Instruction on basic bartending skills, alcohol  
safety, the history and process of different types of alcohol, and how to make  
a variety of mixed beverages. By the end of this course you will have superior  
knowledge of different types of alcohol and drink recipes and have mastered basic  
bartending skills. *No real alcohol will be used.
